How Figure handles your data.

Last updated 19 August 2026.

In summary

  • We collect your email address, your course choice, and your study activity.
  • Tutor messages and photos are processed by Anthropic to generate replies; they are not used to train AI models.
  • No advertising, no sale of data, and no tracking cookies — only the cookies required for sign-in.
  • You can request a copy of your data, or deletion of your account, at any time: support@figuremaths.com.

Who we are

Figure Maths (“Figure”) is a maths revision and tutoring service for GCSE and A-level students. Figure Maths is the trading name of Miran Yilmaz, a sole trader based in England, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice and is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, registration number C2011828. Contact: support@figuremaths.com.

The information we collect

Account information: your email address (used to sign you in — Figure has no passwords), an optional display name, and your exam board and course, so we can show you the correct syllabus.

Study activity: the questions you attempt, your answers and working, marks, mock results, and the misconceptions Figure diagnoses. This record is the core of the service — it determines what Figure shows you next. It is not used for advertising and is not sold.

Tutor conversations: the messages and photos of working you send to the tutor. Photos should show maths only — avoid including personal details in them.

Cookies

Figure sets only cookies that are strictly necessary to operate the service, which is why no consent banner is shown:

  • a session cookie that keeps you signed in;
  • a short-lived cookie used during the sign-in code flow;
  • your theme preference (light or dark);
  • before public launch, an access cookie for invited testers.

There are no analytics or advertising cookies.

How we use artificial intelligence

When you use the tutor, your messages, photos of working, and the question you are working on are sent to Anthropic (the provider of the Claude AI models) to generate the reply. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, this data is not used to train their models. We store your conversations as part of your study record and do not share them with anyone else.

AI-generated replies can contain mistakes. Work that matters — homework you submit, exam preparation — should be checked against your textbook or teacher.

Our service providers

  • Vercel — application hosting.
  • Neon — database hosting, located in London (UK).
  • Anthropic — AI processing for tutor replies (US-based; transfers are protected by standard contractual safeguards).
  • Resend — delivery of sign-in code emails (EU region).

Each provider processes data only on our instructions. If a payment provider (Stripe) is added for Figure Plus, card details will be handled by them directly — Figure never sees or stores card numbers — and this notice will be updated beforehand.

Legal bases for processing

We process your data to provide the service you signed up for (performance of a contract); to keep the service secure and to improve the question bank through aggregate analysis of common mistakes (legitimate interests); and with your consent where we ask for it. We do not make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not profile users for advertising.

How long we keep your data

For as long as you hold an account. You can delete your account yourself at any time from Settings — this removes your personal data immediately — or email support@figuremaths.com and we will do it within 30 days. We retain only what we are legally required to keep (for example, billing records once payments exist).

Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, email support@figuremaths.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk.

Users under 18

Figure is designed for students aged 13 and over, and we follow the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code: privacy-protective settings are the default (for example, sign-ins on shared computers expire the same day unless you choose otherwise), we collect only what the service needs, and there is no advertising, no location tracking, and no photo upload. Users under 13 may only use Figure with a parent or guardian’s permission.

Safeguarding

The tutor is designed to recognise when a student may need more than maths help. If a conversation suggests someone is at risk, the tutor will set the maths aside and signpost real support — Childline (0800 1111), Samaritans (116 123), text SHOUT to 85258 — and encourage speaking to a trusted adult. Conversations are not monitored live by a person.
